Looking through a Glass Onion

Fairfax Studio in Melbourne’s Art Centre is a wonderful place to experience great performance and that is exactly what I did on opening night of the Melbourne tour of Looking through a Glass Onion with John Waters and Stewart D’Arrietta.

These guys are so talented and professional and as fate would have it really, really well oiled when it comes to this particular performance. It was fantastic.

This is the first time that I have seen the show so I do not have a comparison of what it was like with a five piece band as has been the case in previous years.  My experience of the night was that the stage was full to capacity with beautiful perfectly performed music and voice along with transportive and vivid imagery brought to life by John’s incredible powers of story telling. I was there with by brother, sister and a friend, all of us with very different tastes and perceptions and we were all blown away by this incredible performance.

After an extensive Australian tour John and Stewart are off to perform in New York to pay special homage to the indelible John Lennon.

Looking through a Glass Onion Australian Tour dates.

In this entertaining and candid interview, two of Australia’s finest musician/entertainers talk frankly about the history, motivation and journey of their John Lennon show “Looking through a Glass Onion”, from it’s inception over 20 years ago to the current lean, powerful incarnation, and how they are finally taking it to Lennon’s home town, New York.

Insightful, passionate and at times utterly hilarious, they share their stories, reflections and feelings on everything from John Lennon’s life, his music and Yoko Ono to the meaning and motivation behind the show, easily riffing off each other like the old mates and fine raconteurs they are.

Finishing off with a stunning musical performance, this is a must-see, and an utter treat for both John Lennon fans and the uninitiated alike.

‘The Divining Tower’

by the beguiling Emily Humphries

The Divining Tower is a selection of 25 poems from an epic body of 85 inspired works written between 2010 and 2013 by well known artist, writer and painter Emily Humphries.

Raw, visceral and honest, Humphries’ autobiographical tapestry of word, thought and feeling almost defies gravity as she explores, laments and celebrates the many facets of human love, lust, sexuality and romance in all their glorious imperfection.

Born in England in the mid 60’s amidst a dizzying maelstrom of theatre royalty, Emily is the second child of comedian Barry Humphries and New Zealand Ballet’s original member and principal dancer, Roslalind Hollinrake. Her fertile childhood influences included Blackman and Boyd, Greer and Percival at regular dinners in their Little Venice home, as well as comedic greats Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Dudley Moore.

Humphries’ accomplishments in the visual arts have earned her a devoted international following. Writing, her earliest love, had her winning prizes at school, and resurfaced irrepressibly in 2010 when Emily was living in the heart of her beloved Paris.

The Divining Tower took shape during that time in Paris, so it is perhaps fitting that the poetry evokes vivid 18th century imagery sliced with a wry 21st century tongue, achieving operatic impact.

The book opens with a Haiku before the contents page. It floats freely, playfully evoking the shape of a moth, a figure of transformation and the subtle subtext of the work overall. Melbourne, sitting midway in the text marks both a geographical transition and a shift in the tone of the work. It’s first reading earned Emily an encouragement award at the 2012 Doris Leadbetter Cup.

Greatly anticipated by her followers Humphries will be launching The Divining Tower, her first book of poems, on Tuesday the 15th July 2014 at Cam’s, on the ground level of the old Abbotsford Convent. There will be readings by actors Don Bridges and Janet Watson-Kruse IMDb, as well as a few surprise guests.

Exploring Emily’s multifaceted work is a deeply engaging experience. Her poetry cycle, The Divining Tower, is available for purchase at www.emilyhumphries.com, along with a selection of her most collectable paintings and drawings.

Singer / songwriter Lucy Gale ready to go…

Pation Pics was thrilled to bits to be asked by Dianna O’Neill Publicity to produce an interview with psychic medium superstar John Edward to illuminate his forthcoming Australian tour in November 2014.

This may sound like a straight forward thing to do for some, however, one of our biggest challenges was to brainstorm a line of questioning that would reveal new “secret John Edward business” from one of the world’s most interviewed and probed personalities.

Our interviewer the extraordinary singer / songwriter Lucy Gale was armed with 21 designer questions and she had 40 minutes in which to achieve and deliver our goal.

We were all won over by John’s exceptional warmth, charm and straight shooting honesty.

You will get the chance to decide for yourselves when our unique film footage is released in the not to distant future. This is a must see…
